Explore our ancestors with Spencer Wells.

Spencer Wells is a young geneticist who embarks on the greatest adventure of his life, retracing a journey our ancestors made 2,000 generations ago when they peopled the world for the first time, from Africa. Spencer and his international team of scientists have found evidence of this journey in the DNA of all of us alive today – we are the direct descendants of that small band who left their African homeland, pushed by famine and drought, in search of new horizons. They didn't stop until they had reached the ends of the earth.

Spencer travels to every continent in search of the people whose DNA holds our secret history embedded in its code: people like the Namibian Bushmen, the Chukchi reindeer herders of the Russian Arctic, the Native Americans and the Australian Aborigines.
