Synopsis

Join photographer Thomas Heaton on a memorable adventure along the newly-constructed China-Laos railway. Starting in cultural crossroads Kunming, China, and travelling all the way to Laos’s vibrant capital, Vientiane, Thomas captures the people and pulse of the region, highlighting daily life, traditions, and new encounters along his journey. Through bustling markets, remote villages and spectacular festivals, Thomas journeys across two nations with distinct yet intertwined cultures. Tea pickers in Pu’er preserve traditions of an ancient trading route, while young monks in Luang Prabang, balance spiritual practices with modern life. And from control rooms and simulators to massive container terminals and underground tunnels, Thomas gains hands-on experience in state-of-the-art railway operations.
