Synopsis
A large adult male is determined to mate with a young female. A trivial episode in the animal kingdom, one might think. But when it takes place in one of the most hostile archipelagos in the world, and when we discover that the animals concerned are ferocious Komodo dragons, we realize that the courtship promises to be eventful. Fabulous images and a narrative that covers a number of seasons introduce us to the dragons' struggle to find food and drinking water in the dry season, and above all their efforts to breed and ensure the survival of their species. Baby dragons perched ten meters up in the trees; an old dragon who wants more offspring; a young male ready to mate who has to deal with a rival bent on killing him; a recalcitrant female; macaques, deer and buffalo living in close proximity to their predators: these are the characters in our saga. The film challenges received wisdom about the dragons and answers some odd questions. Would it be better to face a group of Komodo dragons or a pack of wolves? What is the young dragons' worst enemy? How do amazing 'construction-worker' birds called megapodes supply the dragons with the thing they most need? Spectacular scenes, imposing landscapes and beautiful photography make this documentary extremely spectacular.
