This film reveals the technological leaps forward that have enabled the world's largest telescope - the Large Binocular Telescope - to be built. The telescope sits on a mountain in Arizona, over 3,000 metres above sea level. Like a giant pair of eyes, it stares up into the night sky. Equipped with two giant mirrors, it allows astronomers to see further into space than ever before. The film explores how this magnificent instrument was made possible through a series of six engineering breakthroughs. This film explores how six landmark telescopes contributed innovations towards its development, allowing astronomers to see ever deeper into space. Using high-end computer generated imagery that makes up 50% of the film, this film reveals the incredible stories behind these structures and the inventions that have allowed them to discover more about our universe. It's the second largest city on earth - and the most important city in Brazil. More than 10 million people live in Sao Paulo. But fitting people isn't a problem. The challenge is the city's trash. Every day, Sao Paulo generates 14,000 tons of garbage -- the weight of the leaning Tower of Pisa. Sao Paulo has embarked on a green revolution by harnessing hectares of trash to produce energy. Aluminum cans are the most recycled object on earth, and Brazil leads the way when it comes not only to recycling them, but the speed at which it's done. This episode follows one aluminum can from the time it is picked by one of the catadores - the trash-pickers of São Paulo who make their living from collecting recyclables - through pressing, melting, and re-melting, to the moment it is ready to become a new can. State of the art technology combined with typical Brazilian ingenuity contributes not only to a clean environment, but to help poor citizens earn their living.

Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, Season 1 | Episode 3

In this episode of Supercar Megabuild, Engineers Ralph Hosier and Ranen Rudra face what seems an impossible task set by pop star client Shane Lynch: take his refined, elegant, 1979 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, and turn it into an all out, bad boy styled drift machine. This will be the ultimate challenge even for the experienced engineers - they've never done a drift car before and certainly not one based on a prestige brand like Rolls Royce. It's a journey that will take them to the home of drifting, Japan, where they'll learn the skills and mechanics of this motorsport from the best in the business. The Rolls Royce they have been given by their mentor Afzal Kahn is owned by pop star Shane Lynch, and as part of the package they'll need to give the car a complete restyling package, as well as going back to the drawing board with the mechanics of the vehicle. In a spectacular finale the Rolls will be handed over to Shane at an international drifting contest in Ireland - will the client like the car, and more importantly, will it be able to go sideways round the track, drifting and doing the job it was never designed to do?!

Guerilla Gold Rush: The Spoils of War, 1

For over half a century, civil war paralyzed Colombia and kept much of its wild lands frozen in time. In December 2016, that changed. The war that resulted in the deaths of 220,000 and displaced 6 million people came to an end. And the land wars began. With the FARC officially gone, the forests of Colombia are open for business. With the war ongoing in 2011, National Geographic Explorer correspondent Mariana van Zeller traveled to Colombia to investigate how the conflict was fueled by gold, with each side wanting their part of the riches. In 2018 Mariana returns, and finds the country even more chaotic. Hundreds of thousands of acres of pristine land is up for the taking, and both corporations and wildcatters want a piece. Today a new conflict arises: FARC has abandoned their forest mines and new armed factions have sprung up in the void, each vying for control of illegal gold that brings in $7 billion per year alone. The scramble for control is unleashing a new round of bloodshed. Illegal gold mining is the largest cause of deforestation in Colombia, and scores of activists and union leaders have been murdered. Through expert interviews and personal encounters Mariana finds that before the peace and after, Colombia's agile criminal underground will evolve and find a way to succeed.
