To The Bone, Season 3 | Episode 5

After abandoning his former home due to lack of resources, hunter-gatherer Matt journeys to the lower elevation canyons of southern Utah to find a new area to call home. He's hopeful this land will have the necessary resources he needs to survive the cold months. Winter has finally come, so Matt must work quickly to build a permanent shelter and protect himself from the elements. He sets deadfall traps, hoping to replenish the energy he loses from building by eating a packrat or squirrel. Will this area be able to provide for Matt or will the hunter-gatherer be back on the market for a place to call home? As their homestead continues to flourish, Tony and Amelia decide it is time to treat themselves. They plan to add a bit of homestead luxury to their hillside and install a hot tub- DIY style. Their visit to the junkyard proves successful, as they stumble upon a cast iron tub in perfect condition piled amongst the junk. But the tub is heavier than Tony and Amelia can handle alone and they struggle to move it at all, let alone heave it up into their truck. As they carefully maneuver the tub the rain picks up and the tub begins to slip. Have their hot tub dreams come up cold? Frontiersman Colbert needs money to pay his property taxes. But the trapping season hasn't been good to him thus far and the price for fur at auction has gone down. Colbert has spent weeks capturing and tanning his pelts; he can't risk sending them to auction and not receiving the biggest return on his investment. Colbert decides to sell the pelts at a mountain man rendezvous, where he can ensure they go for top dollar. Unfortunately for Colbert, his furs aren't selling well, and he reluctantly sells some fur below value. Feeling dejected, when a customer stops by with interest in his valuable, antique gun, Colbert must face the reality of his desperate situation. Thorn's daughter, Briar, comes to Georgia for her first visit to his new home. She's delighted to find out her father has built a special bunk bed in the bus, just for her. But Thorn doesn't want Briar to get too comfortable. Thorn hopes his daughter will someday choose to follow in his footsteps and hear the call to the wild. Hoping to inspire her wild side, Thorn takes Briar out on her first hunt, a squirrel hunt. After building a small bow and arrows to fit Briar's frame, they head out on the hunt, eager to find out if Briar makes her first kill.
