A retired infantry training officer recruits his children to help him finish building his Doomsday Castle, a completely self-sufficient fortress of refuge for the end of days. The most important tasks are building a drawbridge for the front door, cleaning out the bunker, where the family will be living and fortifying the remaining weaknesses inside of the bunker. The children work together to complete their fathers vision, and be prepared for the apocalypse.
Some of the family is tested on obtaining their own sources of food for the castle while Brent Sr. and Dawn Marie build a catapult to be able to defend the castle from intruders if the end times come. Lindsey and Ashley find a sustainable food source, while Brent II and Michael hunt for a meal. The entire family tests the catapult together and then feasts on their new food options.
A military expert is brought in to train the family on how to defend the Castle as it stands now. The family comes together to build a solar powered water system. However, tensions flare when communication is broken down and the family cant work together. Their combat training is tested and things come to a head when a mock ambush pushes the family to their limits.
A torrential downpour gives the kids time to have some fun in the mud. What started out as fun and games turned into the breaking point for Ashley as Lindsey and Dawn-Marie gang up on her in the mud. Tensions run high and the family splits apart as fights, sometimes physical, develop. Ashley, Michael, and Brent II work on a Listening Post Observation Post (LPOP) in the woods while Brent Sr. and Dawn Marie continue work on a portcullis, an iron grating suspended in the gateway of the castle and lowered to block passage. Brent Sr. launches a fake tear gas attack on the children to test their readiness. When they fail, Brent Sr. stresses the importance of having some sort of barrier on the windows to the castle, which could easily be breached by mobs tossing in weapons like tear gas. He sends Brent Jr. and Ashley out to source materials to shutter the windows, while Michael is put in charge of planting a survival garden. Brent Sr.s other daughter visits the castle, and a midwife comes to talk about emergency births and how to use a placenta in various useful ways. Following a late-night intruders trespassing on the premises, Brent Sr. decides that there must be increased security around the castle and surrounding property. The children build a multilevel perimeter defense system with sound alarms and booby traps to prevent any further trespassers. Brent Sr.s son Health comes to the castle to help engineer the roof, and in the process teaches Lindsey how to shoot a sniper rifle for her protection. Brent Jr. and Ashley learn how to make moonshine to use as currency in the end of days. Brent Sr. goes on a hunt to track down the "intruder" and comes to find out that it was only a bear. After teaching the kids to repel, Brent Sr. decides they should build a zip line into the woods as an alternate quick escape route. He assigns Brent Jr. and Michael to be in charge of building the zip line and landing platform. Brent Sr. gets tired of Dawn Marie and Ashley fighting so he blindfolds them and takes them into the woods. He leaves them with two backpacks filled with supplies, saying that they must stay the night and make it back to the castle together. Dawn Marie abandons Ashley during this test and makes her way back to the castle before morning. Brent Sr. and Lindsey put the finishing touches on the roof and lay down the concrete....
In the final episode of the season, Brent Sr. is nowhere to be found leaving his children to continue to fortify the castle. Michael, Brent II, and Ashley set out to build a thick oak door that will show their father how far their building skills have progressed, but tensions rise as Ashley does not deal well with her brothers ordering her around. While their siblings work on the last of the fortifications, Dawn-Marie and Lindsey set out to make a meal from their sustainable food sources one of their chickens.
