Goldfathers

Goldfathers

Synopsis

This past summer in Alaska, three gold mining "families" battled nature, machines and each other in a brutal race against time to try and get as much gold from the ground as possible before the icy, frost of winter returned to shut them down. JOHN REEVES, a self-made millionaire, knows theres gold on his 10,000 acres of property. When the price of gold was low, it wasnt worth it for him to dig it up. Now, with gold prices shooting through the roof, Johns taking a good, hard look at his land. But he knows that before he starts mining, he needs to prospect to find out where the gold is and where it isnt. To help him, hes bringing in his five kids. During the course of the season, the Reeves family will gain a newfound respect for their property and just how hard it is to find gold; while the kids go from less than enthused novices to seasoned vets looking forward to spending next summer going for the gold. Also this summer, well see DOUG BAKER struggle to run one of the largest mom and pop mining operations in the state. Doug may be a brilliant mining engineer, but nothing about gold mining is a certainty and last year he lost half a million dollars mining a bad claim. This season, he and his entire family and crew, known as Mudminers, will struggle to overcome a seemingly endless series of financial and mechanical setbacks in order to have their best season ever. Lastly, we meet CREIGHTON LAPP and CHUCK TILLIAN, two young upstarts looking to take their small company, CCR MINING, to the next level. They are mining on claims owned by old, crusty mining vet CLARK DURANT, and when the season starts, everyone is expecting to strike it rich. However, a series of mechanical breakdowns and permit issues puts CCR behind. Then, when they finally do find gold, a dispute over royalty percentages with Clark threatens to escalate into a full-on feud. Over the course of the series, CCR eventually pulls it together and makes money while Clark ends up alone, panning in a creek, just like the old timers used to do.
