Synopsis

For nearly 400 years, Gloucester, Massachusetts, has been home to America's oldest seaport and the people who depend on fishing for survival. Each summer brings the chance to make a fortune with the arrival of the ocean's most lucrative prize - giant bluefin tuna. But fishing for tuna is a gamble, and captains and their crews must battle old rivals, new competitors and each other in what will be their most competitive season yet.

    At the start of week three of the bluefin tuna season, every boat in the fleet has caught fish except for Hard Merchandise. Desperate to provide for his family, the pressure weighs heavily on Marciano's shoulders to land his first tuna and bring home a paycheck. Meanwhile, as Pinwheel fights to maintain the lead, second place Hot Tuna's Captain TJ Ott counts on his 10-year-old nephew, Danny, to bring luck to Hot Tuna and push them to the top.

  • Don't Quit Your Day Job

    It's tournament time in Gloucester and when inexperienced fishermen - or googans as the commercial fleet refer to them - crowd the water, the fleet has to fight through additional aggravating obstacles standing in their way of earning a paycheck. While googans wreak havoc with their carelessness, some commercial boats will manage to land fish against the odds while others will go home empty-handed. And one boat will score the biggest payday so far this season, but not without a fight.

    It's week seven of fishing and boats are teaming up to share information, in a bid to catch more fish. But when Paul Hebert, captain of the fleet's current top-??earning boat, Wicked Pissah, takes pity on Captain TJ Ott of Hot Tuna, who have struggled to catch for more than a week, Paul's decision to help them just might backfire on him.

  • Two For The Money

    Following a week when several boats in the fleet partnered up to improve their odds, some of these alliances are still going strong while others are coming apart at the seams. Pinwheel and Fish Hawk continue a fruitful partnership that's keeping both boats at the top of the fleet. But things aren't as smooth for Hot Tuna and Wicked Pissah, as Bubba's tendency to "overshare" info with the rest of the fleet has Paul giving the Ott's the silent treatment. And while things are looking up for the Dot Com, engine troubles on the Hard Merchandise make them the weak link in a once-promising team-up.

  • The Fleet Strikes Back

    After an unusually slow start to the season, defending champion Captain Dave Carraro and his vessel, the FV-Tuna.Com, are back on top. But for many in the fleet, especially Captain TJ Ott of the Hot Tuna, FV- Tuna.Com's dominance is an unwelcomed sight-and the fleet will do everything in its power to cool Dot Com's hot streak.

  • Ride the Lightning

    Before and after a storm bluefin tuna go on a feeding frenzy, so for boat captains willing to take the risk of going out on the water the rewards can be great. Last year when bad weather hit the fishing grounds Hot Tuna's captain, TJ Ott, was cautious, sitting out the bad weather at the dock while other boats caught fish and moved up in earnings. This week the competition is close with only few hundred dollars separating the top contenders and no one wants to miss a chance at taking the top spot.

  • Fishin' Friction

    It's the halfway point of the season, and with the pressure for bluefin intensifying, tensions rise for captains and their crews. And while some teams work together under the mounting pressure for paychecks, others begin to fall apart.

  • Mutiny on the Water

    While FV-Tuna.com, Fish Hawk, and Hot Tuna continue to lead the fleet, pressure mounts for Wicked Pissah as they wallow in last place after not catching a bluefin for over three weeks. When Captain Tyler McLaughlin arrives at the dock, ready to go fishing, he gets a nasty surprise.

  • Road to Redemption

    Two boats have spent the last few weeks fighting each other more than they've been fighting fish. The future is uncertain for crews on Wicked Pissah and Pinwheel after weeks of not getting along and not bringing home big paydays. Meanwhile, last season's lowest producing boat, Fish Hawk has a lot to prove to themselves and to rest of the fleet. Captain Brad Krasowski and First Mate Matt Mattson are firing on all cylinders as they try to redeem themselves and dethrone long time champion, FV-Tuna.Com.

  • Point Break

    Coming into week twelve, there are several boats in the fleet that have been struggling lately. Meanwhile FV-Tuna.com and Fish Hawk have been on a tear pulling away from the rest of the fleet. Pinwheel, Hot Tuna, Wicked Pissah and Hard Merchandise are trying to keep their heads above water. Captain Tyler McLaughlin on the Pinwheel is sitting in third place with Hot Tuna creeping from behind. Wicked Pissah and Hard Merchandise need to step up their game in order to compete with the rest of the fleet. S*** might hit the fan as Captain Dave Marciano could finally reach his breaking point, which objects will go flying this week?

  • A Fin and a Prayer

    There are three weeks left in the Bluefin tuna fishing season as the fleet battles for final paychecks and the title of Gloucester's top earning fishing boat. Pinwheel is in the lead for the first time in six weeks and determined to hold that lead until the last day of the season. Last year's worst performing boat, Fish Hawk, is breathing down Pinwheel's neck in second position. Four-time champion FV-Tuna.Com plays catch up, trailing in third position and not happy about it. While Hot Tuna continues their successful season coming of a two fish catch last week but they haven't been in the top spot in nine weeks. Also looking to move up the ladder...

  • Shock And Awe

    With only two weeks left to fish, longtime champions Fishing Vessel Tuna.com are on top of the fleet yet again. Rival boat Pinwheel and others in the fleet are more eager than ever to score an upset and become the top boat this season. And while the chance to earn another paycheck is getting shorter every day, some captains are feeling the desperation, while others are literally asleep at the wheel.

  • Changing The Tide

    With only one week left in bluefin season, the fleet competes for final paychecks and the championship. Longtime champion FV-Tuna.Com and rival boat Pinwheel battle are forced off the water by illness and injury, and with the two top contenders out of the race, it's a game-changer for the fleet, pushing everyone to go for broke to score an upset and become Gloucester;s top-earning boat.

  • Fight To The Finish

    With less than 4 days left in the North Atlantic Bluefin Tuna season, the fleet race to claim the title of Gloucester's top earning bluefin boat. But with two top contenders, last season's champion Captain Dave Carraro of FV-Tuna.com and previous top-earner Captain Tyler McLaughlin on the Pinwheel, potentially sidelined, the field is wide open and it will all come down to the last fish.
