Kaziranga National Park, Assam, India: Dangerous when confronted up close, this bull buffalo was stumbled across at very close quarters. I froze when I came across this bull, and the buffalo seemed startled too as i lifted the camera with a 500mm lens and held it positioned directly at the buffalo. Every nerve in my body was ready to run had the animal moved an inch forward. Being frozen in position relaxed the buffalo and it continued grazing, although it moved back a few yards. Our adventure started on the Zrmanja River, which led us to the big city of Zadar and the Adriatic. Certainly the Zrmanja had never hosted big sea kayaks like ours, understandably since it is laden with rapids and one inspiring, 40-foot horseshoe waterfall. This image is from Oceans 8

A team of scientist lead by Dr. Enric Sala (Marine ecologist, National Geographic Emerging Explorer and Fellow) are studying these pristine coral reefs in a hidden paradise called Shark Eden.
